Research on Core Competencies of University English Teachers and Pathway Optimization Based on fsQCA

The dataset supports analyses of the factors associated with university English teachers’ professional core competencies and the configurational pathways identified through fsQCA.The study sample consisted of university English teachers from 17 universities across three regions in China (East China, Central China, and Southwest China). Data were collected between 20 November 2025 and 20 December 2025. Participants were recruited using stratified sampling to ensure regional representation, supplemented by snowball sampling to reach additional eligible teachers. A total of 610 questionnaires were returned. After data screening, multivariate outliers were identified using Mahalanobis D² and removed. The final analytic dataset contains 561 valid responses.
