BDE-47 (2,2', 4,4' - tetrabromodiphenyl ether) is the predominant congener of PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) that can even be detected in human serum. It is also a persistent organic pollutant that has already been demonstrated to have neurotoxicity. To date, there have been few studies of the effects of BDE-47 on locomotor behavior in sea cucumber.
