This XL file was generated to estimate the annual Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM, -25% / +75%) costs for different implementation options for a precipitation climate variable observing system. The objective of this cost estimate exercise was to get an approximate feel for the average annual operating costs of potentially very different implementation approaches to achieving a 1 day repeat Ka band global precipitation measurement from space. The information in this file was pulled together in support of the Keck Institute for Space Studies (KISS) the study “Developing a Continuity Framework for Satellite Observations of Climate”, and is supplemental data to the study report titled "Towards a U.S. Framework for Continuity of Satellite Observations of Earth’s Climate and for Supporting Societal Resilience", submitted to American Geophysical Union’s journal Earth’s Future.
