UK AECED Data: Aesthetic and Embodied Learning for Democracy in Secondary Education and Adult, Professional and Organisational Learning

The dataset was gathered as part of the AECED project (Transforming Education for Democracy through Aesthetic and Embodied Learning, Responsive Pedagogies and Democracy-as-becoming), the purpose of which was to explore ways in which aesthetic and embodied methods could transform education for democracy. The project was funded by Horizon Europe and UK Research and Innovation. The purpose of the data collection was to gather experiences of using the AELD (Aesthetic and Embodied Learning for Democracy) Prototype Pedagogical Framework and Guides for Secondary Education and Adult, Professional and Organisational Learning that were created at the beginning of the AECED project, and which were then further developed based on the gathered data across the whole project. The AECED UK data were collected through recording facilitated sessions (Professional Learning and Secondary Education); capturing the outputs of facilitated session activities (Professional Learning and Secondary Education); gathering participant and researcher reflections (Professional Learning and Secondary Education); participant interviews (Professional Learning), participant-researcher conversations in facilitated sessions (Secondary Education) and a qualitative questionnaire (Professional Learning). Data were pseudonymized by giving each participant a number or referred to in the publications as, for example, “one of the participants” or “one of the supervisors” in the Professional Learning Case.  In the Secondary Case the participant was pseudonymized and referred to in publications as “the teacher” or “the participant”. The UK AECED research was reviewed by the University of Hertfordshire Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities Ethics Committee with Delegated Authority.
