CRISPR-B - WP4 Social sciences study, T4.2 Quantitative citizen attitude survey data

This record includes the SPSS dataset (.sav), Codebook (.pdf) and master English questionnaire (.pdf) from a quantitative survey organized among the broader public probing for their attitudes and reactions (in terms of acceptance and opposition) to gene editing in honey bees. The survey has been performed in Belgium, Slovenia and Canada in order to allow for cross-country comparison and to test for cross-cultural validity across regions with different regulatory regimes and cultural positions of the honey bee. This study consisted of questionnaire development, pre-testing, application for ethics approval, sampling, field work data collection (July 2025, n=2052) and data analysis by means of SPSS quantitative data analysis software. The survey assessed personal characteristics, attitudes, beliefs, views and opinions in relation to biotechnology in general, gene editing technologies in specific, and the idea of using gene editing to improve honey bees’ resistance to viruses. The data allow mapping the determinants of public acceptance of gene editing in honey bees.
