The 1969 Australian National Political Attitudes survey is the second of three precursor surveys to the Australian Election Study series (which is also available in this archive). This study was conducted during a period of about three months following the Federal Election held in October 1969 and examines the political attitudes and interests of the Australian electorate. Variables include evaluation of political parties and their respective leaders; interest in and knowledge of Australian politics; voting history; party affiliation; sources of information about politics and the election campaign; familiarity with candidates in electorate; role of government and opinion on a range of national issues including involvement in the Vietnam war, trade unions, migration, big business, censorship, taxes and social service spending, conscription and unemployment. Background variables include home ownership, birthplace, father's occupation, religion, education, marital status, size of household, employment and occupational status of the household head, sex and age.
