The human fungal pathogen Candida auris has rapidly emerged in the last decade as an important clinical concern. This fungus causes nosocomial outbreaks and is difficult to treat as many isolates are multidrug resistant. However, clade II Candida auris tend to be more susceptible to antifungal drugs. Here, we in vitro evolved caspofungin resistance in a previously sensitive C. auris isolate from clade II, indicating that this pathogen has the potential to further contribute to the global threat of antimicrobial resistance. WGS of the caspofungin resistant isolates was performed to allow analysis of any genetic changes that had occurred.
