The near-infrared reflectance of vegetation index for northern South America, 2003-2017 dataset consists of a subset for northern South America of the near‐infrared reflectance of vegetation (NIRV). NIRV is a proxy for the gross primary productivity of land-based vegetation. NIRV is the product of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and NIR reflectance (NDVI × NIR). Grayson Badgley generated the NIRV data as described in Badgley, G., Anderegg, L. D. L., Berry, J. A., & Field, C. B. (2019). Terrestrial gross primary production: Using NIRV to scale from site to globe. Global Change Biology, 25(11), 3731–3740. https://doi.org/10.1111/gcb.14729. Source data for the derivation is the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) satellite instruments, collection 6, processed using the Multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction algorithm (MAIAC, MODIS dataset series ID MCD19).
