Standardized preparation of fecal microbiota transplantation products for companion animals

Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) therapy is the transfer of feces from a healthy donor into a disease recipient in order to confer a health benefit. In veterinary medicine, there is currently no standard approach for the production of FMT in clinical practice. This study sought to determine the impact of centrifugation, cryopreservative, and lyophilization on overall microbial community structure. This study also sought to evaluate the impact of these variables on surrogate microbial viability.
