Leguminosa pulse como uma estrategia inovadora para o desenvolvimento do Agro fluminense (Projeto E-26/202.546/2019) - ("Pulse" leguminous as an innovative strategy for the development of agriculture in Rio de Janeiro state)

Since 2016, the International Year of Pulse Legumes by FAO, actions have been taken to raise awareness of information on food and nutrition security. Mung bean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) is a pulse legume of great importance in Brazil, where the demand is growing, also due to export potencial. Particularly in Rio de Janeiro State, the current governamental vision is to raise agricultural GDP as a way to contribute to economic development based on a union of opportunities (technical, economic and logistical) towards the revival of agribusiness in the North region, currently declining in agricultural production. This project aims to characterize, identify and pre-select associated strains for mung bean, as well as to analyze the symbiotic efficiency and to quantify Biological Nitrogen Fixation on a concatenated, targeted and focused way as to obtain technological assets from the microorganism collection. Ten soil samples will be collected from the Southeast and MidWest regions. Mung bean sead will be sown in soil samples, and nodules will be analysed by NGS. Also stress response will be evaluated by assessing the occurrence of differential polyamine accumulation in inoculated and non-inoculated plants. From this study results, we hope to propose the oficial recommendation of eficient strains capable to increase mung bean grain yield at lower costs. Based on the experience on Biological Nitrogen Fixation otimization, new perspectives will open for the productive sector using pulse crops.
