In this proposal, we aim to study the origin of unusual spin crossover (SCO) behavior of {[FeII(4CN py)4]2[WIV(CN)8]}n (4CN-py = 4-cyanopyridine; Fe2W) coordination polymer under high pressure (up to 1.2 GPa) using single crystal X-ray diffraction (scXRD). In our experiment, we will perform a series of high-pressure scXRD experiments with in situ irradiation using blue light at low-temperature to study the impact of the mechanical stimulus on the thermal- and photo-switching behavior of this compound. In other words, we will demonstrate the simultaneous control of the spin state of FeII centers in Fe2W using all three stimuli from the scXRD perspective. Our results will lead to a rational tailoring and engineering of future SCO systems for application in electronic and spintronic devices.
