Origin analysis of PM10 and its ingredients

Particulate particles can be transported over several hundred kilometers and thus lead to increased load even far from their origin. The extra-alpine area of Austria — investigated the cities of Vienna, Linz, Salzburg and Graz — is achieved by long-distance transport of dust from large centers and cities in Eastern Central Europe. In addition, regional pollutant accumulation plays an important role. The contribution of long-distance transport to the urban background pollution of particulate matter in the extra-Alpine cities of Austria is between 15 and 45 %, the regional accumulation between 30 and 45 %. The main regions of origin are Romania, Northern Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia.
