资源简介:
Researchers have often tried to learn about the meaning of designs on Mimbres pottery by looking at what is depicted and speculating about what it might have meant. For example, we know they depict both animals that were eaten (such as rabbits) and animals that probably were not eaten (such as swallows). Now, thanks to a digital database known as MimPIDD (Mimbres Pottery Images Digital Database), we can test some of these ideas systematically by examining the association of designs with certain proveniences and contexts.
The Mimbres Pottery Analysis Exercise worksheet uses the Mimbres Pottery Images Digital Database (MimPIDD) housed on tDAR to evaluate the hypothesis at a larger level, by comparing two different sites, known as Eby and Swarts. Data of 10 bowls from each site, and, for purposes of this exercise, you can assume is a representative sample.
