Assembly of wildtype and parthenogenic drosophila mercatorum stains

In this study, the genomes of sexually reproducing and facultatively parthenogenetic Drosophila mercatorum strains were sequenced using Oxford Nanopore technology. After sequencing and assembly of the nanopore sequencing, the assemblies were polished using an adapted version of the VGP polishing pipeline using transcriptomic sequencing data. This combination of sequencing and transcriptomics data was used to correct potential errors and enhance the overall quality and accuracy of the genome assemblies. The polished genome assemblies were then analyzed to gain an understanding of the genetic factors associated with facultative parthenogenesis in Drosophila mercatorum.
