We used Illumina HiSeq 2500 to sequence 6 libraries of transcriptome of leaves from 3 individual sugarcane plants (parent: Q, generation: B and T). T species can shed their leaves during the mature development while B cannot. The total RNA for deep sequencing was isolated using TRIzol reagent. A total of 478.1 M clean reads were produced by HiSeq 2500. Then, we used Trinity software to assemble the transcripts for sugarcane. An R package RSEM was used to identify the different expression of transcripts between B and T. Deferentially expressed transcripts were further functionally analyzed on Gene Ontology and KEGG pathway, showing several transcripts were involved in the pathways associated with leaves shedding of sugarcane.
