963. Size 61/4 in. by 4 in.; foll. 119. Nine, thirteen, and fifteen lines in a page.

I.Foll. 1-85. ‘ALÎ ḲÂRÎ’S (d. A.H. 1016) Prayer Book, الحزب الاعظم. See no. 362.

Very well written, with vowel-points. Notes on the use of particular prayers are added on the margin.

II. Foll. 86-94. و هذه التوسلات بالنبی صلعم تالیف مولانا قطب العارفین الحبیب (؟) عبدالله بن علوی الحداد نفع الله به آمین تقرأ لکل شدة دنیویة و اخرویة الخ.

Four addresses to the Prophet in verse, supposed to be great talismans against all evils, and to secure God’s special assistance. The author, ‘ABDALLAH B. ‘ALAWÎ ḤADDÂD (of Tarîm, who flourished in the eleventh century), is mentioned at some length in no. 717, fol. 166 sqq.

They begin as follows:

یا رسول الله یا اهل الوفا

یا عظیم الخلق یا بحر الصفا

(fol.88) نبی الهدی لا تنسنی من شفاعةٍ

انی مسئ مذنب ذو جرائر

(fol. 89) یا سیّدی یا رسول الله یا املی

و یا غیاثی ویا کهفی و مدّخری

(fol. 90) یا سیّدی یا سندی یا عمدتی

یا عدتی فی یسرتی و عسرتی

They are followed (foll. 91v.-92) by a prayer in prose. It begins: و عن بعض السلف انه کان یدعوا بهذا الدعاء لتفریج الکرب الخ.

Well written.

A note on the value of the above addresses is added in a bad handwriting.

III.Foll. 94-102. A letter of the aforesaid ‘ADDALLAH B. ‘ALAWÎ to ‘Abd al-raḥman b. ‘Abdallah عباد(?), answering various questions,-e.g. about the meaning of a certain dream; whether Ghazzâlî used the terms علم الیقین و عینه و حقه in the same sense as the Ṣûfîs; etc. He also reproduces at the end of it (fol. 98v.) the whole of a letter of Abu’l-‘Abbâs Aḥmad ZARRÛḲ Maghribî Mâlikî (d. A.H. 896 or 899), on the five principles (اصول) of Ṣûfism.

Begins: الحمدلله الرقیب الشاهد الخ.

Inelegantly written.

IV.Foll. 104-113. The same letter, copied, as it seems, from the preceding MS., in a plainer handwriting. Fol. 113 repeats the contents of fol. 108r.

V.Foll. 114-115. بیان معرفة شهوة الحرمة, and

VI.Foll. 117-118. معرفة طبائع النسا و هن اربعة اجناس الخ.
