Ukraine’s economy was growing rapidly in the mid-2000s: steel exports, agriculture, heavy industry and consumer markets were expanding. Foreign investors saw major opportunities. What changed afterward: the optimism weakened because of political instability in Ukraine, corruption problems, disagreements inside the EU about further enlargement, increasing Russian pressure, the 2008 global financial crisis etc. Political reality of 2007 - Ukraine wanted a membership perspective but many EU states avoided promising actual accession. There is present optimism, but also hesitation. Will the EU give hand to Ukraine to get out from Russian influence? This is the question.
