In the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha, MpRKD, an RWP-RK transcription factor, promotes egg cell differentiation. Mprkd mutants exhibit a specific defect in egg cell differentiation. To identify genes preferentially expressed in egg cells, we performed comparative transcriptome analyses using archegonia of wild type and Mprkd mutants.
