The genus Alteromonas contains species of marine bacteria that have been isolated often from the oceans around the world. Based on the phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities, strain DE170 was classified as another member of the genus Alteromonas with 99% of 16S rRNA gene sequence identity to the recently described Alteromonas australica H 17T(Ivanova et al, 2013). This study aimed to provide a detailed genomic investigation of the two A. australica strains obtained from two geographically distant locations.
