Kulliyyât-Bâḳirkhân (كلّيّات باقرخان ).

Works in prose and verse by Bâḳirkhân, with his full name: Mirzâ Muḥammad Bâḳir Najm-i-thânî (the second star), who went to India during Jahângîr’s reign (A.H. 1014-1037=A.D. 1605-1627), and flourished in emperor’s time, see Makhzan-algharâ’ib, No. 307 (col. 322 in the Bodleian Cat.); he is probably identical with the Bâḳirkhân, with the takhalluṣ Bâḳir, called in the Safînah, No. 703 (col. 235 in the Bodleian Cat.), one of Jahângîr’s and Shâhjahân’s Amîrs. The exact date of his death is not known. Another poet of the name of Maulânâ Muḥammad Bâḳir of Kâshân, who died in the Dakhan, A.H. 1034 (A.D. 1624, 1625), is mentioned in the Safînah, No. 585 (ib., col. 230); a third Mîr Muḥammad Bâḳir with the tahalluṣ Ishrâḳ, renowned by a number of Arabic works and a Persian dîwân, lived in Astarâbâd and died A.H. 1040 (A.D. 1630, 1631), see the same Safînah, No. 623 (col. 232 in the Bodleian Cat.); a fourth and much younger Maulânâ Muḥammad Bâḳir died A.H. 1081 (A.D. 1670, 1671), see A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 104.

Contents:

1.Mau’iżah-i-Jahângîrî (موعظۀ جهانگیری), the exhortation of Jahângîr, an essay on political and ethical wisdom and on the duties of princes and subjects, composed A.H. 1021 (A.D. 1612, 1613), the word موعظه forming the chronogram; it is divided into a muḳaddimah ( در توطئة ذكر اسم سامى و نام نامئ جهانگیر), on fol. 278b, and two bâbs: (I) در نصيحت پادشاهان ; (2) در نصيحت زيردستان, on ff. 280b and 299b respectively. The first bâb contains six, the second four faṣls.

Beginning of this prose-treatise on fol. 276b: سپاس و ستایش مر حكيمى را كه بحكمت بالغه وصنعت كامله از عين حكمت بى دستيارئ شريك الخ .

2.Dîwân(ديوان), comprising :

(a) Ḳaṣîdas, on fol. 313b, beginning:

اسباترست پیش من از صحبت ريا

در چنگ شير بودن ودر كام اژدها

(b)Ghazals, on fol. 319b.

(c)Ḳiṭ’as, rubâ’îs, fards and a few riddles, on fol. 335a.

3.Explanation of a mystical ḳiṭ’ah or riddle which the author himself had composed on a journey to Dihlî, in consequence of a vision of the fifth Imâm in his dream, on fol. 341b, beginning: حمد ملكى كه نظام نظم سلسله بدو وعود وجد از آثار جود الخ.

4.Inshâ (انشاء), containing letters, notes, khuṭbas and other pieces of a flowery and refined prose-styled, on fol. 347b, beginning: موزون ترين كلامى كه غزل سرايان انجمن مقال و چهره پردازان شواهد قصائد الخ.
