Responsibilities for hydraulic engineering

In the case of cantonal waters, apart from the concessions of hydropower plants, there is a maintenance obligation on the part of the canton, which was laid down in a RRB 1993 and with 2 additions to it. The approximately 406 km of rivers as well as the 3 main lakes (Zurich, Greifen-Pfäffikersee) are maintained by the 6 workshops of the water maintenance section of AWEL Wasserbau. This includes shore maintenance, small repairs, inspections and disposal/reporting of any water hazards The data set contains the areas of competence of the individual workshops and their responsible persons. In addition, the various responsibilities of the sections Planning, Construction, Water Use as well as Advice and Authorisation of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering are listed, which includes not only the cantonal but also the municipal waters (flow and standing waters), flood retention basins as well as maritime constructions and concession land.
