To explore the mechanism of triacylglycerol synthesis in Nannochloropsis following nitrogen deprivation. Nannochloropsis (Eustigmatophyceae) is a genus of unicellular photosynthetic microalgae, ranging in size of 2-5 µm and widely distributed in marine, fresh and brackish waters. They are of industrial interest due to their capability of rapid autotrophic growth, synthesis of large amounts of TAG and polyunsaturated fatty acids (e.g. eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA) that can be readily converted into advanced biofuels and robust outdoor growth with flue gases.
