Images from a Watching Brief and Evaluation at Land at Paternoster School, Watermoor Road, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, December 2016

This collection consists of images from a watching brief by Cotswold Archaeology, of Land at Paternoster School, Watermoor Road, Cirencester, Goucestershire, in December 2016. A total of six test pits were excavated, five of which were sufficiently deep to expose archaeological deposits. In the central region of the site, a sondage through an early modern dump deposit revealed a wall of likely Roman date. Roman demolition material was recorded in a further four test pits, distributed across the site. A total of two boreholes and four coreholes were excavated, of which only the boreholes were sufficiently deep to expose archaeological deposits. Roman demolition material was recorded in both boreholes sealing up to 1m in thickness of Roman deposits beneath.
