Parkes observations for project P814 semester 2016OCTS

During the past 6 years, we at Parkes and collaborators at other\r\nradio telescopes have been remarkably successful at discovering\r\nmillisecond pulsars (MSPs) associated with unidentified Fermi-LAT\r\ngamma-ray sources. Based on lessons learned, we here propose to\r\nextend our P814 project, which so far has yielded 13 new MSPs in\r\nrepeated 1-hour searches at 1.4 GHz of unidentified LAT sources\r\nwith spectral characteristics that are consistent with those of\r\nknown pulsars. The coming 4FGL gamma-ray source catalog contains\r\nhundreds of unidentified sources with better source-class discrimination\r\nthan previous catalogs. We have selected the "top 40" of these\r\nsources suitable for Parkes searches. Because of interstellar\r\nscintillation, large orbital acceleration, and eclipses, it is\r\nimportant to search the most highly ranked sources multiple times.\r\nHere we propose to observe 40 high Galactic latitude unidentified\r\nFermi sources three times each. The overall time request is 120\r\nhours on source, or 132 hours including overheads.
