Glutamatergic and GABAergic axon terminals in the hindlimb somatosensory cortex of the mouse

The densities of Glutamatergic and GABAergic axon terminals have been estimated in the different layers of the mouse hindlimb somatosensory cortex. Immunofluorescence techniques with antibodies directed to vGlut1 and vGAT vesicular transporters, to label Glutamatergic and GABAergic axon terminals respectively, were used in coronal sections obtained from the brain of five mice. Confocal microscopy and 3D object counting techniques were used to estimate the densities of axon terminals in 15 samples from each cortical layer and animal.
