As a revolutionary technological breakthrough, the digital economy has profoundly changed the productivity and production relations in the agricultural production process. Therefore, in discussing the impact of the digital economy on the high-quality development of agriculture, this paper includes the direct and indirect effects of revolutionary technological breakthroughs, innovative allocation of agricultural production factors, and transformation and upgrading of industrial structure. To achieve this goal, this study selected the data of 30 provinces in China from 2017 to 2021, and constructed two indicator systems of high-quality agricultural development and digital economy performance evaluation. The selected intermediate variables include the allocation efficiency of agricultural resources, the upgrading of industrial structure and the rationalization of industrial structure. The direct and indirect effects of the digital economy on high-quality agricultural development were quantified using the individual fixed effects model. The results show that the digital economy significantly contributes to promoting high-quality agricultural development, and every unit increase in the digital economy index will increase the agricultural high-quality development index by 0.334 units. From the perspective of the new development concept, innovative development is the most affected by the digital economy, followed by open development, coordinated development and sustainable development, and the impact on shared development is relatively small. At the same time, high-quality agricultural development promotes regional cooperation among regions with comparable economic bases. However, it hindered the mutually beneficial development of agriculture in the surrounding areas. The technological changes brought about by the digital economy can indirectly affect the innovative allocation of production factors, promote the profound transformation and upgrading of industrial structure, and promote the high-quality development of agriculture. This conclusion helps us make full use of the revolutionary technological breakthroughs brought by the digital economy to solve the problem of agricultural factor mismatch effectively, Promote connectivity between urban and rural areas and the prosperity of rural industries, and provide theoretical guidance and policy suggestions for the realization of high-quality agricultural development.
