Helping Families Build Neighborhood Libraries

Foshan is one of the largest manufacturing cities in China, it has a large number of migrant workers from all over the country. How to promote neighborhood communication and community integration, Foshan Library started Neighbourhood Libraries project. The project focuses on family reading promotion ,helping families build personal library by “moving” public library resources and service into the family to make reading easier. Methods Foshan Library provides: 200 books for each neighborhood library with lending period of one year; Specialized catalogue of family reading and customized books; New book selection market; Books ordering by WeChat and free delivery services; Customized cultural activities such as picture book parties…… Neighborhood Library should: Apply for membership; Select 200 books to build family collection system; Provide books reading and lending services to neighbors,friends and relatives; Develop multiple reading activities…… Effect 600:600 neighborhood libraries have been built. 20,000:Over 80,000 books have been borrowed from library, and 400 reading activities have been carried out with 20,000 participants. 40,000: Each neighborhood library has serviced for more than 10 families, the whole service system has covered over 6,000 families, nearly 40,000 citizens in the city. Immeasurable......The project has activated families’ reading interest. Neighborhood libraries have led more people to join reading team to make reading easier and form a group of brand activities such as grass reading clubs.
