资源简介:
Photo in metal frame of France on the back his service record states he was killed in November 1915. Editor's Comment Pte. 17229 Matthew Couslon, 7th Bn. Northamptonshire Regiment, is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. Interestingly, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission records him as having been killed in action on 27th September 1915. The 24th Division, of which the 7th Northamptonshires were part, was heavily engaged on the 26th September, the second day of the Battle of Loos, suffering more than 3,900 casulaties. The unit had only concentrated in France on 4th September. The discrepancy between the official record and the photograph label may possibly be explained by the family not having been notified of Pte. Coulson's death until November 1915. The date on the photograph frame itself (1914-1918) suggests that it is a commemorative piece, made after the armistice. The 'Service Record' label is likewise a private, rather than official, document, most likely filled out by a member of Pte. Coulson's family.
