资源简介:
This report contains the results of the site testing program in the Richard B. Russell Reservoir, Savannah River, Georgia and South Carolina. The purpose of this program was to test a number of selected archeological sites below the 430 foot contour interval. This interval was chosen because all lands below that elevation are expected .to be flooded by late 1981. Sites which were selected were drawn from those reported in Taylor et al (1978). Archeologists from the Interagency Archeological Services, .Atlanta, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, selected the sites. Originally 20 sites were to be tested within a span of slightly less than two months (field work to have been completed by November 30, 1979). One more was added during the course of the field work. Testing was completed on 17 of these and is reported herein. The object of the testing program was to recover enough information about these sites to allow the Corps of Engineers and Interagency Archeological Services to develop a mitigation plan pertinent to those sites on which it was determined further work was needed. Thunderbird Research Corporation conducted the field work. Dr. William M. Gardner served as principal investigator. William P. Barse was the field supervisor.
