Except for several conspicuous cases, very little is known about sulfur oxidizers living in freshwater environments. Sulfuritalea hydrogenivorans strain sk43H is a facultatively autotrophic sulfur oxidizer isolated from an anoxic hypolimnion of a freshwater lake. We performed genome sequencing of strain sk43H to provide unique opportunities to study sulfur cycle and other biological processes in anoxic freshwater environments.
