Comparing Cognitive Strategies of Efficient Vocabulary Acquisition among Junior School Students: Evidence from Establishment of Orthographic and Semantic representations

This study adopts the "learning testing" research paradigm, using the EyeLink1000 eye tracker during the learning phase with a sampling rate of 1000Hz and a screen resolution of 1024 × 768 pixels. The distance between the subject's eyes and the screen is 50cm. All reading materials are presented in size 18 Song typeface, with each Chinese character measuring 25 × 25 pixels and a viewing angle of 0.73 °. During the testing phase, a 14 inch Huawei laptop with a screen resolution of 1024 × 768 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz was used, programmed with E-Prime3.0. The data consists of two parts, namely the learning stage and the testing stage, which are uploaded in three data tables. Among them, the first data table (related data 212) is as follows: PP is the subject, OrthACC is the correct rate of orthographic judgment, SemaNAC is the total correct rate of semantic testing, CateACC is the correct rate of semantic category selection, RelaACC is the correct rate of semantic correlation judgment, AppliACC is the correct rate of semantic rationality judgment, ComACC is the correct rate of reading comprehension, MM1 is the metacognitive monitoring score on new words, MM2 is the metacognitive score on new words, MM is the total metacognitive score, TTPassage is the reading time of the text, and TTword is the reading time of new words. The second table (Orthod) and the third table (Semand) are the eye movement data for the orthographic/semantic high and low efficiency groups, respectively. PP is the subject, sentence_order is the reading order of the text (1-12), Grade-d is the grade (7th and 8th grades), Ortho-d/Semand-d is the orthographic and semantic group (H is the efficient group, L is the inefficient group), Exposure is the number of times new words are learned (1-6), and finally, new words are used as motivation The eye movement indicators of the interest zone (SFD \ FFD \ GD \ RIC \ Reiad \ RT), as well as the reading time (SRT) and fixation frequency (SFC) of the text.
