Gene Expression in Ectopic and Typical Cambia Types

The presence of distinct vascular arrangements in plants, including atypical developmental trajectories, are referred to as cambial variants or vascular variants and have major implications for plant physiology. One category of vascular variant is ectopic cambia which is characterized by de novo cambium formation in an atypical location. While experimental work has explored the direct formation of cambia through modify gene expression, we present gene expression data from typical cambia in Phaseolus vulgaris as well as from both typical and ectopic cambia in Wisteria floribunda to explore the natural pattern of gene expression that drive ectopic cambia formation.
