Most used contraceptive methods in Italy 2018

In 2018, the condom was the most popular contraceptive method among Italian women. Although this may be true, less than five women out of ten declared to regularly use it. Italian women considered protection from infections and diseases one of the main benefits deriving from the use of contraceptives, yet comfort and efficiency were regarded as even more important. Sexually transmitted infections and diseases Most of Italian people who were affected by a sexually transmitted infection (STI) only occasionally used condoms. In 2019, 2,531 new HIV infection cases were diagnosed in Italy, a figure that represented a decrease of more than one thousand individuals compared to just two years before.  Awareness of STDs among teenagers According to the result of a survey recently released by the Italian Ministry of Health, high school students were well-aware of the fact that HIV could be transmitted through sexual intercourses. However, the same cannot be said for other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea or chlamydia, about which both male and female students seemed to have doubts.
