Exposure to Imidacloprid Induced Impairment of Brown Adipose Tissue in High-fat diet-fed C57BL/6 Mice

Imidacloprid, a broad-spectrum neonicotinoid insecticide, has demonstrated detrimental effects on mitochondria in the hepatic cells and macrophages. Therefore, we hypothesize that imidacloprid exposure may also impair the function of brown adipose tissue (BAT), which is characterized by the mitochondria-rich brown adipocytes. These findings suggest that imidacloprid exposure may exacerbate metabolic dysfunction in BAT, potentially serving as an overlooked risk factor for the development of obesity.
