Low flux and membrane fouling are primary challenges that restrict the application of gravity-driven membrane (GDM) systems in decentralized water supply. In this study, based on the physicochemical properties of bio-cake layer, the "black box" mechanisms of membrane fouling in GDM systems were explained using molecular biology techniques and co-occurrence networks under the influence of hydrostatic pressure (60, 100, 200 mbar) and pre-coating with aluminum-based flocs (ABF)
