Switching on sex: Determined by several genes on the Y chromosome, the SRY is the master of these genes

The tools needed for this study were: - A computer with internet - Access to literature database (such as Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science) - Access to excel program This review study was done on the genetic abnormality in the Y chromosome and how it may affect gender disorder. Thus, the used key words for this research were “abnormal* AND SRY AND mammal* AND male* AND female*”. The asterisk (*) indicate that the ending of the word could be anything that match the data base. The obtained number of articles in the Web of Science was 83. We also did some research to find out if the range of articles we have was matching other databases and after removing all the duplicates we obtained 84 articles in total. The articles were published between 1992 and 2014. We sorted the articles according to their number of citations, the most cited articles were at the top. Following this, we went through the titles of the articles and excluded the ones that did not meet our research area; we were left off with 74. Then we went through the abstracts and the full text of the studies and we excluded 40 studies; thus, we were left off with 34 studies. In the excel file we created two columns one for the exclusion (we put “no” for the article we did not need and “Yes” meant they interest us) and one for the reason (to show why we excluded them). Afterwards, we used the remaining studies to extract the information that answer the five questions which our review was based on.
