This dataset accompanies a quasi-experimental field study on AI-supported preparation for an introductory physics laboratory experiment on Ohm’s law. The study compared undergraduate science students who prepared with an AI-supported learning environment to students who used a traditional laboratory manual. The data include questionnaire responses, conceptual understanding measures based on two-tier multiple-choice items, and supporting questionnaire materials. The data collection was originally conducted in German; the questionnaire was translated into English for publication. For the upload, the original participant IDs in the dataset were replaced by anonymized codes. The study investigated effects on conceptual understanding as well as students’ preparation behavior and, for the treatment group, interaction patterns with the AI tutor based on the ICAP framework.
