Quadrat Dataset Investigating Insects Within Grassland and Woodlot Environments

Our group went out on the afternoon of October 1st to the Danby woodlot and adjacent grassland found on York University’s Keele Campus in Toronto and randomly placed 1m x 1m quadrats, 10 within the woodlot and 10 in the grassland. Our observations include the number of insects found within each quadrat during a period of 30 seconds. To be included in the count, the insect had to be on the ground of the observed quadrat. Recognizable taxonomic units were used to identify the insects within the quadrat and were summed up to account for the diversity within the quadrat. The total number of insects was also calculated to display the abundance of insects within the quadrat.
