VPRS 17046 Receipt Book

This series consists of receipt books that document the purchase of the order of the right of burial or cremation. The order is a requirement under section 24 of the Cemeteries Act (1915) that before the deceased can be interred; the exclusive right of burial or interment must be sold or granted by a member of the trustees of the cemetery.The order was usually purchased by a spouse or family member when a person died. However, there are instances where an order was purchased by the deceased prior to their death. Section 73 of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act (2003) states that a cemetery trust may grant to any person a right of interment in a public cemetery for which it is responsible for payment of the relevant trust fee.The receipt book provides evidence of the order of rights that have been sold by the trustees of the Corinella Cemetery.The receipt book details the following:- The date the order- Who applied for the order [spouse or relative]- The money paid- The allotment number- Name of deceased- Signature of Treasurer.
