Cultivation of Spirulina(Limnospira platensis) using low cost media and its potential to address challenges posed by climate change in the semiarid regions of Southern Africa
收藏资源简介:
This study contains the experimental data generated for the study titled “Cultivation of Spirulina (Limnospira platensis) using low-cost media and its potential to address challenges posed by climate change in the semiarid regions of Southern Africa.” The research was conducted at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology. The data were collected to evaluate the productivity of Spirulina grown in fertilizer-based low-cost media, with the aim of assessing its suitability for sustainable biomass production in resource-limited and climate-vulnerable environments. Measurements include Spirulina biomass yield, protein content and pigment productivity (including phycocyanin and chlorophyll). All values represent the outcomes of laboratory cultivation experiments designed to determine the feasibility of replacing conventional commercial media with affordable fertilizer-based alternatives. The recorded measurements were used to generate the figures presented in the manuscript and support the analysis of growth performance and biochemical composition under low-cost media conditions.Files and variablesThe file included with data sets is; Results File_KMasisiThe file is provided in an uncompressed formatThe excel file contains the names of figures in the manuscript as sheet names. Figure 1 shows the Biomass productivity at different Fertilizer concentrations and Figure 2 shows the OD readings during growth measurement of Spirulina.Figure 3(a and b) shows the biomass and protein production data sets, 'R' in the data sets represents replication. Figure 4(a and b) shows the phycocyanin and chlorophyll production and 'R' represents the replicates.Variables and DefinitionsVariableDefinitionODOptical Density measurementsT1 and T7Treatment 1 and 7, where T7 is the supplemented fertilizer media while T1 is media without supplementation(as indicated in table 1)(g/l)grams per litreEquation 1Specific growth rate equation calculated from OD measurements, results shown in Table 2.Equation 2Doubling time calculations made from specific growth rate, results shown in table 2.Equation 3Biomass calculationAccess informationOther publicly accessible locations of the data (sequence of organism used):NCBI(National Centre for Biotechnology Information)Data can be viewed using the following GeneBank linkhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nucleotide/PP905718.1?report=genbank&log$=nuclalign&blast_rank=1&RID=J83BU6T3014&from=1&to=1031Licence; This dataset is shared under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence, permitting reuse with proper citation.
