Nine boys and five girls stand on the steps of the first school on Sunset Boulevard with their school mistress, who stands to the right in the back row dressed in a dark blouse. The boy standing center in the front row wears an ill-fitting pinstripe suit, while three other boys to the left of him wear dress shirts and kerchiefs. A boy behind him holds his had to his chest while the boy next to him smiles widely. The girls are situated in the rows mainly to the right, the girl in the first row wearing a dark, floral-patterned dress, the girl behind her wearing an overall-type dress with a blouse underneath, next to which a third girl sports a lace collar. Two more girls stand at center in the top row with the remaining boys.
