Tolypocladium cylindrosporum strain IBT 41711 is an insect pathogen and can produce fumonisins, a family of toxins that disrupt sphingolipid metabolism. Genome sequence analysis has revealed that T. cylindrosprum IBT 41711 has a homolog of the fumonisin biosynthetic gene cluster that was previously identified in species of Aspergillus and Fusarium.
