An MP apparatus comprises a refiner or grinder comprising a rotary part， and an electric motor configured to produce an output torque to rotate said rotary part at a rotational speed. A frequency converter drive is configured to drive said electric motor， said frequency converter drive comprising a control input. A process controller is coupled to said control input and configured to control values of operating parameters of the MP apparatus. Said process controller comprises a command input. It is configured to respond to a command received at said command input by making， through said control input， said frequency converter drive change the rotational speed of said electric motor and/or the output torque of said electric motor between two nonzero values.
