After the Unification, in the Italian School, with ups and downs, the proof of translation from the classics of Italian literature into Latin was institutionalized, kept distinct from the composition in the same language. Memorable remains with 57 reprints "Lo stile latino" (1893) by Giovanni Battista Gandino, a leading exponent of the University of Bologna, teacher of Giovanni Pascoli. Subsequently, some manuals are reviewed, including Meletemata by Virgilio Paladini and Scriver latino by Ugo Enrico Paoli, in which the theoretical part relating to style is combined with practical exemplification in Latin. Finally, after the teaching experiences of Giovanni Pascoli and Paolo Fossataro, we report the balanced position of Alfonso Traina on the translation from Italian into Latin, before his elimination.
