Data Package: Task 6.3 - Public Opinion Survey on Irregular Migration Policy Governance across 13 EU+ Countries

The data were collected between March and April 2025 through a survey conducted with respondents residing in 13 EU+ countries: Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The total sample includes 16,301 respondents, with approximately 1,250 per country. The survey gathered detailed information on socio-demographic characteristics, attitudinal values, and political ideology, as well as preferences across the full range of policy instruments governing irregular migration in Europe, from return enforcement and regularization schemes to policies addressing non-returnable and non-regularizable migrants. The survey also included an experimental component assessing the effects of political communication, specifically the framing of factual information about state effectiveness in enforcing returns, on attitudes and policy preferences. The dataset includes a total of 199 variables. Preferences for regularization policies were assessed through a conjoint experiment, preferences for policies addressing non-returnable and non-regularizable migrants with two ranking tasks.
