FUNAI Negative Certificates and Indigenous Land Rights in Brazil (1970-1990): Press Reports Dataset and Data Dictionary

This dataset contains two files related to a historical research project on FUNAI negative certificates issued during the Brazilian military dictatorship (1970-1990). The negative certificates were official documents attesting to the absence of indigenous peoples in specific areas, facilitating the invasion of indigenous territories in the states of Mato Grosso, Pará, and Amazonas. File 1: A corpus of 105 press reports (1972-2009) documenting conflicts generated by the negative certificates, collected from the Hemeroteca Indígena archive (Armazém Memória platform). File 2: A data dictionary describing the structure of the restricted certificate dataset (78 documents obtained from FUNAI via direct request, subject to a usage agreement).
