This FAIRsharing record describes: IEEE 2791-2020 is the IEEE Standard, a reporting and documentation protocol for computational pipelines for Bioinformatics Analyses Generated by High-Throughput Sequencing (HTS) to facilitate communication. It is supported by the BioCompute Objects (https://www.biocomputeobject.org/). The major goal of the standard is to improve communication of bioinformatics protocols and data in order to facilitate bioinformatics workflow-related exchange and communication between regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and bioinformatics platform providers, and researchers. The standard has two integral parts: the standards document and the schema, the latter of which is maintained in an open source repository. This standard is meant to improve understanding and ease the organizational burden for both sponsors and FDA reviewers by providing clear guidelines for the kinds of data to be included, and the way in which the data are represented. A detailed communication helps ensure responsibility, reproducibility, verify bioinformatics protocol, track provenance information and promote interoperability.
