Comparison of faecal and bloodstream isolates taken from the same patient

The study compared isolates of E. coli and K. pneumoniae isolates from the faeces and the bloodstream of five hospitalised paediatric patients with bloodstream infections. This was with the aim of understanding the genomic and phenotypic changes that the organisms underwent in transition from gastrointestinal carriage to invasive bloodstream infection.
