Food Habits, Activity Patterns and Ectoparasites of the Pine Marten at Sagehen Creek, California

MASTERS THESIS: There were 3 objectives to this study: the primary goal was to describe the diet and activity patterns of the pine marten prior to a timber harvest in the study area. Secondarily, several methods of scat analysis methods were compared and tested for their relative accuracty. Finally, marten ectoparasites were surveyed and the role of the fleas (Siphonaptera) in the transmission of plague (Yersinia pestis) to martens was explored.
