Urban Mining Medal Outreach Toolkit (2016–2018): Participatory Tools for Public Engagement and Educational Activities

This dataset compiles a set of participatory tools developed as part of the Urban Mining Medal initiative between 2016 and 2018. These materials were designed to translate the concept of “urban mining” into hands-on experiences accessible to citizens, children, and local communities. The collection includes:- An instruction sheet for folding a promotional paper cap used in outreach events (UMM012)- A photo collection documenting participant-created “My Urban Mine” bags (UMM029)- Illustrated educational materials for creating urban mining-themed origami tools (UMM030) These tools played a critical role in transforming urban mining from a technical concept into a socially shared experience. By enabling participants to physically engage with the idea of resource circulation, the initiative fostered awareness not only of recycling, but of material flows, hidden resource use, and the presence of valuable resources within everyday life. This archive provides insight into the design of participatory sustainability practices and the role of tangible tools in communicating complex resource concepts. 本データセットは、2016年から2018年にかけて都市鉱山メダル運動の中で開発された、市民参加型普及ツールをまとめたものである。これらの資料は、「都市鉱山」という概念を専門的な知識としてではなく、子どもや市民が体験を通じて理解できる形に翻訳することを目的として設計された。 収録内容は以下の通りである:・イベント等で用いられた折り紙式プロモーション帽子の作成手順・参加者や子どもたちが制作した「My都市鉱山バッグ」の写真記録・折り紙形式で都市鉱山を体験的に学ぶ教育用資料 これらのツールは、都市鉱山という概念を単なるリサイクルの説明にとどめず、「触れられるもの」「作れるもの」として社会に広げていく役割を担った。素材の循環や資源の存在を、自分の手の中で実感できる経験として提示した点に、その意義がある。 本資料群は、持続可能性教育、参加型リサイクル、資源認識の社会化に関する実践的知見を示すものである。
